Sehat Card Recent Changes & Challenges
In March 2024, the KP government restored the Sehat Card after it had been suspended due to funding issues. They also added a life insurance component to heirs of deceased family heads (Rs 500,000 to Rs 1,000,000) under the Plus program.
However, in Punjab, the Sehat Card scheme in public hospitals was reportedly ended in June 2025, and replaced by new health initiatives. This means in Punjab, residents should check local rules and whether Sehat Card is active in their district. Some challenges include unpaid dues to hospitals, lack of coverage in rural areas, and delays in claims.Despite these issues, Sehat Card remains a vital support for many underserved families.
